It was really cool meeting Ben from Ben Oakley Gallery. There’s a peaceful ease to his presence and what you see is what you get; he genuinely loves art and represents what he likes.
Founded in 2010, over the last seven years the Ben Oakley Gallery has become a household name in London’s gallery scene located in Greenwich with a solid roster of artists.
A while back Ben decided he wanted to contribute to St. Christopher’s Hospice, an establishment close to his heart and came up with PHING THING: Nobody knows exactly what it is but it kind of looks like an abstract penguin sculpture. It sits on its bum or head and is perfectly happy there.
To raise funds, every year Ben distributes a small army of PHING TIHNGS to a selection of local and international artists and leaves it up to them what they do to the piece. After the paint and whatever else goes down the lot of them return to Ben Oakley Gallery for an exhibition and auction, held this year on Sunday 29 January in Greenwich, London, (UK).
I am stoked to take part in this charity exhibition and not only have the opportunity to create something really cool but also to support such a great facility and staff at St Christopher’s Hospice. Win-win :P - Dd Regalo
